(STERLING, Va.) He had dinner in England with Prince
Philip, was welcomed to Saudi Arabia by Prince Turki
and received a pardon from Australian Prime Minister,
John Howard. He climbed up volcanoes in Easter Island
and saw the Taj Mahal and Giza Pyramids. Author and
photographer Sam Stewart shares these fascinating stories
along with many others in his new book, The Adventure
Continues (Peanut Butter Publishing, February 2002,
ISBN: 0-89716-876-3), the first ever compilation of
the London to Sydney Great Air Race.
The Adventure Continues is a coffee-table book
that recounts the 56-day journey of The Campbell Air
Race Team as they span the globe in a race against time
and an adventure that has become an historical event.
Sam Stewart records the journey of the team, named after
father and son piloting team, Lyle and Scott Campbell,
throughout The Adventure Continues in a collection
of daily journal entries and photographs making up the
only pictorial of the race to date.
The London to Sydney Centenary Air Race 2001 is a journey
across 12,000 miles with more than three dozen teams
participating in two categories: speed racers and precision
flying. The race itself began in Kent, England with
Sydney, Australia as their final destination and more
than two dozen stops along the way. The team then went
on to circle the globe before making their way home.
As guests, Stewart and Campbell can discuss:
- The history of the Great Air Races (1919, 1934,
1969, 2001)
- The exotic travel destinations the team visited
- The differences they experienced between cultures
- Both comical and frightening stories from the team's
travels
- Stewart's journal entries and photographs as documentation
of the race
"The Adventure Continues will thrill you
and fill you with inspiration, amusement and amazement
beyond your wildest dreams," says Walter P. Kallestad,
fellow passenger of Miss Nancy. "This treasure
will encourage everyone who wonders if great 'God-sized'
dreams really do come true. This heart-stopper and heart-warmer
is a must read!"
Stewart currently resides in Sterling, Virginia where
he is a photo editor with America Online at their International
Headquarters.
Campbell, who learned to fly on a farm strip as a young
man, lives in Arizona and is currently Chairman of Founder's
Bank of Illinois and affiliates.
