Around the World in 56 Days

A Chronicle of The Great Air Race of 2001 and Beyond

(STERLING, Va.) This year marks the centennial of the Wright brother's first flight. As this historical flight is celebrated, author and photographer Sam Stewart introduces The Adventure Continues (Peanut Butter Publishing, February 2002, ISBN: 0-89716-876-3), the first ever compilation of the London to Sydney Great Air Race. The Adventure Continues is a coffee table book that recounts the 56-day journey of The Campbell Air Race Team as they span the globe in a race against time and an adventure that has become an historical event.

The Adventure Continues begins in 1919 when the first Great Air Race was held. Three more races, one in 1934, in 1969 and the most recent in 2001, followed. The London to Sydney Centenary Air Race 2001 is a journey across 12,000 miles with more than three dozen teams participating in two categories: speed racers and precision flying. Stewart records the journey of The Campbell Air Race Team, named after father and son piloting team, Lyle and Scott Campbell, throughout The Adventure Continues in a collection of daily journal entries and photographs making up the only pictorial of the race to date.

The Adventure Continues is an introduction to a world that few people have the opportunity to see. It includes each of the following:

  • Travel -The race itself began in Kent, England with Sydney, Australia as their final destination and more than two dozen stops along the way. The team then went on to circle the globe before making their way home.

  • Culture - The Adventure Continues contains photographs of some of the world's most ancient marvels including The Great Pyramids, Easter Island, the Taj Mahal and Ayers Rock. It also introduces the reader to native life from around the world.

  • Aviation - As the book chronicles the team's journey in a Grumman Albatross, Miss Nancy, the reader is introduced to the logistics of flying whether it be an issue of tackling instrument problems, weather delays or obtaining pardons after landing in Sydney Harbour.

  • Photography -Stewart, the only photojournalist involved in the Air Race, recorded the adventure by using state of the art professional digital cameras. The book includes spectacular aerial photos as well as pictures of places few people get to see.

"The Adventure Continues will thrill you and fill you with inspiration, amusement and amazement beyond your wildest dreams," says Walter P. Kallestad, fellow passenger of Miss Nancy. "This treasure will encourage everyone who wonders if great 'God-sized' dreams really do come true. This heart-stopper and heart-warmer is a must read!"
